In the curl of a hairpin
A slant-angle descent
‘round an erupted volcanic memory now cool
Cracks, the beginning of the Cenozoic Period.
Cracks became homes
For the explosion of newborn seeds,
A flowering
Long before humans were even a glint in the Earth’s dream for her life.
In this most flourishing era yet, the human arrived, late.
They must have been an odd curiosity
An eccentric idea in the dream of the Earth.
Surely, they wouldn’t make it.
An extravagance whose explosion in numbers
Separated them from everyone else of the Earth community.
A slant-angle descent
‘round an erupted volcanic fossil
Now cool with cracks
Homes for the newborn seeds
Of Earth’s most flourishing period.
In the curl of a hairpin
The direct descendants of those first seeds,
Trees and flowering plants
Reach to touch the distant source of their life,
Their own dream to someday
Caress the Star of their birth.
In the curl of a hairpin
The wonder of Earth’s Dream.
